lb & the little rabbit…
On the day our son LB was born, as soon as we saw his little round self, we gasped. He was radiant! There was some kind of light shining from his tiny round face…Maybe it was the Star in him, we weren’t sure…
Since that day, LB has been radiating light, yes, it’s true…he is still radiant!

And, now that he is older, LB is radiating so many questions…that I, his mother, do not have the answers to!
One thing: The question of honesty.
LB does not like it at all when I use metaphor or hyperbole…he thinks it is not the truth!…For example, if I were to say, “LB, I love you more than a million white doves, all taking flight into the morning sky!” he would say, “That’s not true! How can you love me more than a million doves? That does not even make sense!!!”
So, I try to be very literal & straightforward with LB… (but in my heart, I do love him as much as a million white doves, all taking flight, etc…!)
Then there is the question of mirrors…on our planet we have none! Occasionally, we do see a bit of a reflection in the water, but it is so wavy & blue, we just don’t give it much thought…
The mirrors here on Earth are funny things. LB asks me, “Is that the truth? Is that me?”
“No, LB,” I say. “That is not the truth. That is not you.”
“Because when the mirror falls down, you are not inside it…You are still here, and we can see you. This is the real you, LB!”
Then, there is that matter of…stories! …LB is a wonderful storyteller! He loves to tell stories…& they sound so real & so true, that he begins to believe them! And they are so powerful, these stories, that he can make anyone believe them!
“Truth is stranger than fiction”…that is a saying I have heard here on Earth.
And its mirror image is, “Fiction is sometimes more believable than truth”!
Why is that so? Is it a little image of the truth? Is it the clarity we love?

…then LB will ask, “What is the difference between telling a lie & telling a story?”
And I say, “LB, are you trying to harm or trick or fool someone, or are you trying to help get us through this life together?…Does the listener know it is a story?”
And LB says, “You know, I caught a little rabbit & it will be my pet from now on, & I think it will probably eat you!”
And I say, “LB, please, let’s go have some root beer floats!”
Universe, can you please stand still for just a minute, so that my son can see you clearly? I think that is what he really wants!
love,
Clay Ball
