the clay ball rose show

Welcome! Today, on this episode of the Clay Ball Rose show, I’m going to speak with a wonderful book–in fact, my favorite book!
The author of this amazing book, H.A. Rey (who is also the beloved author of the Curious George series!) left this Earth in 1977, & so is unable to join us for today’s show.
So tonight, we will just interview the book itself:
The Stars, A New Way to See Them, by H.A. Rey
(We will refer to The Stars as TS for the rest of the interview):
CBR: Welcome, TS!
TS: Thanks, CB–I’m happy to join you here today!
CBR: Please tell us a little bit about yourself, TS.
TS: Well, I was born in 1952. My author, H.A. Rey, invented a new set of star charts that were based on what ordinary beings could see from the Earth when they went outside & gazed upward!

CBR: So any ordinary being, such as myself, can learn the most famous & visible stars just by reading you?!
TS: Yes, that’s right, Cha–I mean CB.
CBR: Are you meant just for children, because it seems as if my children just absolutely love you!

TS: Well, I am meant for beings of all ages, really!
Stars are there for everyone to treasure & enjoy all their life long, & there are plenty of ‘em to go around!
Maybe that’s why they are sometimes taken for granted, Clay Ball.

CBR: Hmmm…How about this page–can you tell us a little about this, TS?
TS: Well, CB, the night sky looks a bit like an umbrella, with the North Star (Polaris, or the Pole Star) right in the middle. The night sky appears to rotate around the North Star! That is why, if you know how to find the North Star, you will never get lost!
CBR: Never?
TS: That’s right, CB. Never!
CBR: Wow!

CBR: Speaking of North, do you only talk about the Northern Hemisphere?
TS: No–I am primarily about the Northern Hemisphere, but then later on, I do have charts of the skies seen in the Southern Hemisphere as well.
CBR: Now, there has been some controversy about your claims that the Big Dipper is finer than the Southern Cross, or some words to that effect. What do you say to that?
TS: Well, that is my own personal preference–but then, I am just one book. I would recommend for everyone to go check it out for themselves! You may not be able to run up or down to the other side of the globe, but just check out your own night sky. Who knows, someday you may have the chance to see another part of the world, & then you can decide for yourself!

CBR: Well, thanks so much for joining us here tonight, TS! It really was a great, great pleasure & an honor to have you on my show!
TS: Thank you for having me, Clay Ball!
CBR: Well, that’s it for now, folks! I hope that you all have a wonderful evening, & be sure to check out the stars!
They will always be there for you!
love,
Clay Ball Rose
