Amazing Earth Fact (AEF):  Cherries are drupaceous fruits, come to find out!!!

A ”drupe”  is a stone fruit, a fruit with a hard covering around the seed:  Cherry, peach, plum,  & even the coconut, to name a few!  We thought it was that the cherries drooped so temptingly from the trees, but…no.

It comes from the Latin “drupa,” which means “overripe, wrinkly olive.”  Drupa is immortalized in that beloved ABBA song known the whole wide universe over,  Super Drupa, a tribute to the humble but delicious little cherry!
