Here is our geologist in the center– & he is…my Dad!

(Here, Dad is surrounded by all the grandkids–LB & Sun, the two awesome grandsons, and then on the other side are Sophia, Flicka, and Seala, the three amazing granddaughters, and then in front, the sweet babies, Tiny Star & Joy.  Hi kiddos!)

Back home, my Dad is known as a healer.  Now that he is retired, he has many hobbies!  Unlike most other clay balls, my Dad is very adventuresome &  loves to travel and explore!

His  passion is the natural world & geology in particular!

On to our interview…I must tell you, these are Dad’s uncut, unedited responses to my questions…

CBR:  Hi Dad!

Geologist:  Hi Clay Ball!

CBR:  Why do you love geology so much?

Geologist:    Because it tells the story of our people. We clay balls are made of the finest particles, only .004 mm or smaller.

We are not all the same, however.  There are four major clay tribes, the Kaolinite tribe, the Montmorillonite/Smectite Tribe, The Illite Tribe, and the Chlorite Tribe (although some say they are not really one of us), and we all belong to the larger body of Phyllosilicates.

We are a friendly, hard-working people, mix easily with others, and come from a long,  ancient, and solid line.

CBR:  Why do you know so much about clay, that substance we are made of…is it because of the work you did all your life as a healer?

Geologist:  Yes!

CBR:  What about rocks…Where are  rocks, Dad (the Earth’s crust, or where)?

Geologist:   Rocks are everywhere. They form the floor of the oceans, the continents on which the people build, the moon in the sky, and planets like Mars.

CBR:  Yes, I remember seeing lots of rocks when we travelled to the moon during our 3rd grade field trip.  And how old is the Earth now?

Geologist:  This Earth is thought to be 4.5 billion years old.

CBR:  Wow!  4.5 billion years!   That’s nothing to sneeze at!

Nowadays, what do the Earth’s geologists actually do?

Geologist:  Geologists study how the earth works:  Earthquakes, volcanoes, mud slides, mountains rise and fall, rocks are formed and changed, rivers find their ways, etc.

They study the materials of which the earth is made, where to find them, and how they might be reached. Geologists study the history of the earth. Where were the plates, and why do we find sea shells on the tops of mountains, what was the climate then and where is it going, what killed the dinosaurs, why is New England so rocky, so sandy in spots, rock so sculpted in some places and so smooth in others?

CBR:  Wow, geologists have a cool & fascinating  job!   And finally, what is clay, Dad?

Geologist:  Clay is the lattice on which our lives and souls are built.  From clay we come and to clay we return.

It doesn’t make good feet, which is why we clay balls are round!

CBR:  LOL, well I guess that pretty much sums it all up!  Thanks so much for being here with us today, Dad!

Geologist:   Thanks for having me here, Clay Ball!

love,

Clay Ball Rose
